Our Trustees

Dr Michael Bowker

MA, MB, BChir. has already served as our representative on cross party hospice matters in the region. His expertise in the clinical area will be extremely valuable as we move forward. He has experience with working directly with the local PCT in an advisory capacity. He was elected as the new Chairman of the Trustees from 1st April 2009.

Mike Boxshall

Mike has been with the Trust for five years and has been involved in fundraising activities and supporting internal functions and external events, representing the Trust on many occasions. He is also a member of a local Lions International Association.

Trevor Davey

Trevor joined the Board of Trustees in February 2008. He has previous experience as Chair and Director of an Abbeyfield sheltered accommodation home and has a background in project engineering, health & safety and development of training programmes for London Underground.

Alan Chandler

Alan has been with the Hospice Trust for over twelve years and is our longest serving Trustee, started with organising a Guinness Book of Records record breaking feat with the 'largest tombola in the world' event in 1992. His professional experience is within the field of land development, commercial building and estates reselling business and has helped extensively in developing our fundraising and shop networks. He is presently Managing Director of Stupples Ltd., High Wycombe and Aylesbury.

Richard Field

Richard 'Dick' Field joined us in January 2012, so is one of our more recent Trustee members. He comes from a manufacturing electrical engineering background, has run his own metal finishing company which he started in 1996 and now helps out at our warehouse each week.

Ann Higginbottom

Ann lives close to the Hospice and has been working with the volunteers and supporter activities and events for some considerable time. She has also been key in introducing new Trustees to the organisation.

Barry Pickersgill, JP

Barry joined in February 2008 and has extensive business experience at Managing Director level in a high profile corporate UK company, and in finance, marketing, and sales within the leisure industry in the UK, at director level. He is currently a mentor of the Prince's Trust and a Magistrate in High Wycombe.

Dr James Walter

Dr Walter joined us in December 2010. He has been a Senior Partner in a GP practice based in Stokenchurch (retired in April 2006) as well as Chairman of the Professional Executive Committee of the local Buckinghamshire PCT. He also was the initiator and GP lead for the construction of a new state-of-the-art Medical Centre in Stokenchurch in 2002. His experience of designing and specifying a modern medical care facility will be extremely valuable to our plans for building a new Hospice in 2011 to suit the needs of all our patients on a single site. His knowledge of health policy and continuing contacts with the health service locally will be very helpful for the needs of our patients.

Roger Jefcoate CBE DL (Appeal Patron)

Roger Jefcoate joined as Appeal Patron in March 2011 to support the new build project. He has already donated a substantial amount of cash support through his own charity The Roger Jefcoate Trust fund. Roger was also recently appointed in Nov 2011 as a Deputy Lieutenant for Bucks and serves in many capacities across other deserving causes in the UK, as well as local causes, such as the Woodrow High House Centre in Amersham, Bucks. He is also involved in the more recently formed Medical Detection Dogs Charity, which is doing pioneering work in this fascinating area.

Clare Balding (Appeal Patron)

One of the BBC’s main sports presenters, Clare fronts all its live racing coverage, including the Grand National, Royal Ascot, the Derby and l’Arc de Triomphe. A presenter of both the Olympic and Paralympic Games from Beijing in 2008, Athens in 2004 and Sydney in 2000, Clare has been part of BAFTA award winning coverage for a decade. She can turn her hand to Winter Olympics (2002 and 2006), Commonwealth Games (2006), rugby league, three-day-eventing, show-jumping, swimming, golf, tennis, bowls or darts. In 2002 and 2004 she was one of the presenters of Sport Relief. A regular presenter on Radio 4, she has fronted Saturday Live, Woman’s Hour, Pick of the Week, Broadcasting House and (for the last 9 years) the walking series Ramblings. On 5 live, Clare is part of the team that presents the National Hunt Festival from Cheltenham, co-presents its Wimbledon coverage and last year became the first woman to commentate on a Wimbledon final. She also works on the golf coverage at the Open. She has made guest appearances on numerous TV shows including Have I Got News For You, A Question Of Sport, They Think It’s All Over, Countdown, Call My Bluff, Test The Nation, University Challenge, Weakest Link and Mastermind. In 2003 Clare started to branch out of sport, presenting a new series, Housecall In The Country, a live weekday magazine programme covering a variety of lifestyle topics. She has also worked on The Lord Mayor’s Show since 2003, Trooping The Colour and in 2006 was the first voice on BBC One as she welcomed in the New Year live from the Embankment. Clare has three times hosted BBC Two’s coverage of Crufts and presented a 10-part series, also on BBC Two, called Race Country. Clare, a Cambridge graduate, was elected President of the Union in 1992. She was a good all-rounder in sport, and was champion lady rider in 1990 and leading amateur flat jockey in 1989 and 1990. Clare was honoured with the Horse Writers and Photographers Association (HWPA) Racing Journalist of the Year Award in 2003 and in 2004 she won both the HWPA Sir Peter O’Sullevan Broadcaster of the Year award and the prestigious Royal Television Society Sports Presenter of the Year award. In 2009, she was praised for "perfect presentation" by the judges of the Broadcast Awards who named the Grand National 2008 as their sports programme of the year
