Volunteer your time

Facts

  • 80% of our staff are volunteers
  • Volunteers are an important part of the team
  • Without them the hospice could not survive
  • There is a voluntary role to suit everyone
  • You can offer as little or as much time as you can spare

What roles are there?

There are many areas where you could help; in the hospice, in the shops, driving, helping in our offices, helping at fund raising events or even running your own event!

In the hospice

Duties vary from making and serving teas/lunch, arranging flowers, and generally supporting the nurses in their duties. Volunteers are encouraged to work with the Staff Nurses by helping with various arts and crafts, but even if you are not 'arty' there is always something you can do - just making conversation with patients is sometimes enough or you may wish to be on the reception desk or work in the garden.

Volunteer drivers bring patients to and from the Pusey House. Drivers use their own vehicles and are paid a mileage allowance.

Once a month there is an informal meeting for all volunteers who work at Pusey House and everyone is welcome.

If you think you might be able to help in a practical way, have a skill, time, energy, enthusiasm, or are looking for something different to do, we would like to hear from you. Most of our Volunteers work one half-day shift a week at Pusey House but some do more and some do less. Call Helen McCurdy on 01494 537775 for information on volunteering within the Hospice.

Volunteer Home Companions

We are currently looking for more Volunteer Home Companions to be with patients in their own homes for a short period each week.If you are interested in this role then please contact Helen on 01494 463198

In the shops

If you have some time to spare why not come and help us in one of our shops. We can find something interesting and worthwhile for you to do, such as customer service, merchandising the products, designing displays etc. If you can help, please contact the shop nearest to you and ask for the shop manager ( link to shops page).

Office and fundraising

Our Appeals dept is always looking for willing helpers at fundraising events such as Garden Parties, doing street collections, helping at awareness stalls or even helping in the office. Direct fundraising events can be organised with your support or you may prefer to join or create your own Support Group in your area. We would be happy to support your event with materials and information where needed. Our finance team also welcome volunteers to assist them. We would like to hear from you if you have any of the following skills; marketing, PR, office based computing skills or general office skills.
