We launched the first phase of our Support our Nurses campaign which initially runs from 3rd October. We will work to raise awareness of the different types of care that The South Buckinghamshire Community Hospice nurses provide to patients suffering from life-limiting illness and cancer.
The launch comes as part of Hospice Care Week which celebrates the work of hospice care nationwide. Hospice CEO, Jo Woolf, explains: “Facing the end of your life can be incredibly scary and lonely. Linking in with Hospice Care week we are proud to launch our Support our Nurses Campaign.”
The South Buckinghamshire Community Hospice Palliative Care nurse, Carole, shares the impact of her work:
"Our work doesn’t just involve end-of-life care, as The South Buckinghamshire Community Hospice nurses we are lucky enough to be able to provide a variety of services here, that we can direct our patients to. Including, complementary therapies, acupuncture, physiotherapy, counselling and family therapy, which can all enhance a patient and their loved ones quality of life.
“Spending time with a patient during this traumatic stage of their life means we have to work very hard to win a patient’s trust and build a two-way relationship. Whilst we work to find that small spark of hope to develop, we need also to be very mindful of sometimes an extremely poor prognosis and the profound impact this has on the life they have left to live. I feel so privileged to be able to make a difference, however small, doing the work that I do each day.”
Head of Fundraising & Marketing, Liz Taylor, encourages support: “As we go into Hospice Care Week, we are appealing to our local area to donate in support of our Palliative Nurses. Without their generous donations, we are unable to continue the work we provide for people who need Hospice care. Please do dig deep, make a real difference and back our nurses.”
After Hospice Care Week, our Support our Nurses campaign will run until 31st March 2017.
