Reflexology

Reflexology

Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy, based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body. Our reflexologist works holistically with the patients and aim to help relaxation and promote better health for their clients.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy plays a major role in the care of our patients. With gentle encouragement many patients can regain confidence in their own abilities. For patients who are immobile we may be able to help them do very simple things for themselves, which is a huge boost to their independence.

We provide physiotherapy for patients attending  Pusey House, in consultation with the multidisciplinary team an appropriate treatment plan is devised and implemented. Clinics are held on Tuesday and Thursday a.m.

Physiotherapy is important for:

  • Helping mobility and providing walking aids and assessing for wheelchairs if necessary
  • Helping with chest and breathing problems
  • General exercises for stamina and flexibility
  • Pain relief, for example using massage
  • Advice regarding moving, handling and positioning issues

Counselling

Counselling Service Being diagnosed, and living, with a serious illness impacts on both the patient and their family members. If you are a patient or carer and are struggling to cope with the impact of illness, you may benefit from some additional emotional and psychological support. Our counselling service provides the opportunity to talk things through with a qualified counsellor. If you would like to make an initial appointment, to meet with a hospice counsellor and to explain your concerns or anxieties, this can be arranged by speaking with a member of staff at Pusey House or the Lymph Clinic or by calling 01494 463198. Bereavement Support Bereavement can cause us to feel overwhelmed and confused by our emotions. We can feel lost and fearful. When a person we have looked after dies, we may also lose our sense of purpose once our caring role has ended. Our hospice bereavement support services include: • Individual Counselling • Bereavement Support Group Individual Counselling It may be that you have recently been bereaved and relate to some of the above. You may wish to talk on a one-to-one basis with a hospice counsellor. Bereavement Support Group An informal support group takes place at Pusey House every six weeks. It provides an opportunity to meet with others who may be experiencing similar feelings, and is facilitated by hospice staff. You would be welcome to come along to the group one evening to find out if it might be something that would support you. Who can refer? You can be referred to either of the above services by any healthcare professional or you can contact us directly.

Creative Activities

The conservatory and garden painted by a patient

Creative activities such as art and music assist patients by giving them the opportunity to develop or enhance skills in a way that fills their time and allows them to interact with other patients, volunteers and members of staff. We have a regular art group and occasionally have visiting musicians who perform for the patients

Work created by patients has been exhibited and sold within the local community or turned into gifts for others. People discover new or lost talents and find ways of expressing themselves that give great joy to themselves and to their families and friends.
