It is with sadness and yet huge gratitude for her accomplishments, that we announce the news that Jo Woolf, CEO of The South Bucks Community Hospice, has decided to step down from her role at the end of May.

Jo has steered the charity through its most significant development since the hospice was established by Edie Pusey in 1985. It had been clear for many years that the hospice had outgrown its original home on Amersham Road. However, after several years of trying to purchase land and build a new hospice, little progress had been made. Jo was appointed as the new CEO for South Bucks Hospice, with the explicit remit to deliver this much-needed development.

Four-and-half years later, the wonderful team of nurses and support staff are now proudly installed in a new, purpose-built facility - designed to enable the best possible care for our local patients and their families who need this highly-valued service.

Those of you who have had the opportunity to visit Butterfly House in Kingswood will have appreciated what a beautiful space has been created - both within the light and airy building, as well as the calming, restorative gardens.

The new building is a highly-visible legacy of Jo's time with the hospice, and is supplemented by a refocused compassionate yet practical clinical and psychosocial strategy to support this growing community.

The hospice moved into Butterfly House April 2017. Jo, who has given so much of herself to the hospice over the past four-a half-years, after much reflection, feels that this is now the right time for her to step back from full-time work responsibilities and enjoy more quality time with her much-loved family. She leaves the hospice in a transformed situation and we are truly grateful for her contribution to the evolution of our community hospice.

The trustees will ensure that the highest standards of care continue under the leadership of the chair of trustees, Dr Michael Bowker.

Increasing the range of services for the hospice users will need financing and our budget needs to grow to enable this to be delivered.

If you would like to contribute to the work of the hospice through fundraising or volunteering please contact 01494 552 761.
