Charity workers were left thrilled and impressed after four staff from healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson volunteered at their shop for a day.

The four sorted clothes and also cleared and organised garages at the South Bucks Community Hospice shop in Hazlemere on May 23.

The day was run as part of the High Wycombe company's volunteering programme, and was so successful that hospice bosses want the staff to return in future.

Sue Patel, Assistant Manager at the Hazlemere shop, said: "The Johnson & Johnson women were really good and worked very hard. It was brilliant because it helped us so much. We don't have enough volunteers so this makes a big difference."

Sue Hannaford, Volunteer Co-ordinator at South Bucks Community Hospice, added: "This is further proof of how rewarding volunteering can be for both the charity concerned and for the workers involved. They clearly got a lot out of the day, and we are very grateful to Johnson & Johnson for arranging this. This initiative came just before this year's Volunteers' Week but our hope is that individuals and companies will volunteer for us all the year round to help patients with life-limiting conditions."

Hugh Chamberlain, UK Corporate Social Responsibility Lead at Johnson & Johnson said: “At Johnson & Johnson, we strongly believe that we have a responsibility to the communities in which we live and work. We encourage our employees to use five volunteering days a year and it is incredibly rewarding to see the difference that time makes to both our people and the organisations that we support.”

In 2016, J&J's UK employees volunteered over 16,000 hours, equivalent to nine people volunteering full time. More than 3000 employees have taken part which is more than two thirds of the company's UK workforce
